Artist ProposalS
Are you a Chicago-area artist with a passion project you've been dying to work on?
Is there a musical you'd love to bring to Chicago's storefront theatre community?
Brown Paper Box Co. wants to work with you!
We are currently accepting submissions for both plays and musicals for our 2020/2021 season! Our mainstage season features one play and one musical. We will be selecting one of each for the 2020/2021 season.
For this season, BPBCo. will be participating in The Jubilee, a yearlong, nationwide theatre festival featuring work generated by those who have historically been excluded. Please visit: https://jointhejubilee.org/ to learn more and see how your piece might fit into their mission.
Before submitting, please browse through our website, especially our company page,
to get a feel for our work and see if you'd be a good fit with our team.
Proposals will be accepted from September 3-October 8, 2019.
We hope to have a final decision by early December 2019.

FAQs
What kind of show are you looking for?
In general, we are looking for a show with a small cast and simple technical needs that features characters in their 20s and 30s. What do you consider a small cast? A cast of 2–10 actors. Do all of the characters need to be in their 20s or 30s? No; however, we strongly encourage a majority of characters to be in that age range. What size band can I use? Ideally, keyboard only. Up to 4 musicians, unless it's actor/musicians. What are "simple" technical needs? Minimal set, costumes, props, etc. Do you have a creative way to make a complex show clear and simple? We'd love to hear about it in your proposal. What if I have more than one show to propose? Great! Please fill out one form for each show idea. |
What's the timeline? You will receive an email informing you whether or not we'd like to move forward with your proposal for a second review. We will interview the finalists before making a final decision. The actual production will take place either: Summer time slot: July-September 2020 Winter time slot: January-March 2021 Our musical is generally in the winter with the play in the summer, however we are open to a swap, based on artist availability. Who is reviewing these proposals? First Review: Executive Team Second Review: All Brown Paper Box Co. Members Interview: Executive Team Is this a paid position? We offer a stipend for our mainstage productions. I still have more questions! Please enter all questions in the "additional comments" section of the form. |
