Wendy can be intense and abrasive, but she has a lot of love to give and through a lot of trial and error she discovers how to give that love and who to give it to. ![]() Full given name: Justin Harner Where you were born/where you were raised? Effingham, Illinois Your role within the Aloha, Say the Pretty Girls family: Martin How would you describe your character? Martin is like Pinocchio gone wrong. What happens when a dog enters the human world? He's excited and fascinated and has this new body and voice. He can interact with the world, but he can't interact with people. His greatest wish has left him with one foot in the human world and one paw in the dog world. I went there, and I won't take that back. In 5 words, how do you describe Aloha, Say the Pretty Girls: You'll think about it later. Something you're REALLY bad at: Faking conversations about sports. "Yeah, I saw the White Sox play at Soldier Field once. It was great." Yes, that was said, by my mouth. Special hidden talent: I can burp on command. Current local show you have been recommending to friends: Big Love by Charles Mee at Strawdog Favorite Chicago neighborhood: Uptown Favorite play: Thom Pain (a play based on nothing) by Will Eno Your personal idols: David Bowie, Marina Abramović, Tom Waits, Sam Rockwell Most played song on your iPod: "Next Year, Baby" by Jamie Cullum Who would play you in the Lifetime movie about your life: [insert current Disney wunderkind child], when he decides to snag a 'legitimate' role after his latest arrest, not realizing the role demanded that he mostly stare pensively out of windows and avoid eye contact with attractive people on the El. Must-see TV show(s): American Horror Story, season two (you don't have to watch the first one!). It's everything you want out of Ryan Murphy: completely inconsistent conventions, angels, Satan, and an occasional musical number. Unpredictability at its finest. Pop culture guilty pleasure: I CANNOT get enough Steely Dan. Three things you can't live without: Piano, running shoes, and an expensive-looking watch. "I'll never understand why…": ...anyone would ever wait in a line. Go make your own fun. ![]() Full given name: Pamela Mae Davis Where you were born/where you were raised? Born in Houston, TX, actually, but raised in Los Angeles and the Bay Area. Your role within the Aloha, Say the Pretty Girls family: Vice President in charge of dirty jokes, sartorial commentary, and growling. Also I play Vivian. How would you describe your character? Vivian goes on a great journey in this play. She starts out thinking she understands things - who she is, how the world works, what her place in it is - and then she basically gets hit in the face with how un-understandable these things actually are. Which is sometimes hilarious and fun (for us and for her), and other times it really sucks. It's incredible hard, but she gets her sea legs. I think for me the play is about Vivian getting her sea legs. Something you're REALLY bad at: Hairstyling Special hidden talent: Test-taking Current local show you have been recommending to friends: Jason and (Medea) at (re)discover theatre. Check them out right after us, they open June 20. Favorite Chicago neighborhood: I'm digging Rogers Park / West Rogers Park these days. The level of diversity is way rad, and it reminds me of home. ![]() Full given name: Michelle Elise Kritselis Your role within the Aloha, Say the Pretty Girls family: Dramaturg (staff) What does that mean/what do you do? Because this show has a lot of unconventional elements, I wrote up a little thematic analysis of the show and included some informational blurbs about komodo dragons, Incan mummies, etc. for the cast and production team. In 5 words, how do you describe Aloha, Say the Pretty Girls: Funny, bizarre, poetic, wild, relatable Something you're REALLY bad at: I have never been able to blow a bubble with bubble gum. As a kid, this drove me crazy. Favorite Chicago neighborhood: None! Suburbs forever! (But seriously, I'm so over the notion that suburbia is this bland, culturally desolate collection of McMansions where passion and authenticity go to die. It's not.) Pop culture guilty pleasure: I am embarrassed to tell you that I watched the whole series of TLC's Breaking Amish last year, even though it was the fakest fake that ever faked and all of them had been living "English" for like the last decade and one of them had a kid or whatever. It was somewhat engaging, despite its manufacturedness. Three things you can't live without: Chicago Mix popcorn, my husband, and a supportive bra. (Not in that order.) "I'll never understand why…": ...some people don't like seafood. Is this like a landlocked Midwestern thing, that so many people don't like fish? Whatevs, more for me!
