![]() 1. What is your favorite memory from high school? My favorite memories were all choir- and theatre-related. The best were probably the trips involved, either to All-State IMEA for choir or going down to the University of Illinois for Theatrefest, which seemed very cool and grown up. 2. What is your least favorite memory from high school? There is not one specific one, but anything related to my perfectionism (anxiety about getting straight-A's, being thin, getting solos and lead roles, etc.). Basically, being too competitive with my peers and too hard on myself. I was much more lonely and stressed out than I needed to be. 3. What was your most played song/album/singer when you were a teenager? It is a tie between musical theatre and angry girl music. The top two being the Les Miserables Original Cast Recording, and Tidal by Fiona Apple 4. What was your favorite movie from your teenage years? I was annoyingly obsessed with Monty Python and the Holy Grail. (I was one of those kids who would quote the entire movie.) Also, American Beauty blew my mind as a teen. (And I had a somewhat hilarious crush on Kevin Spacey.) 5. If you had to give yourself a superlative in high school, what would it have been? Choir Nerd 6. If you had to give yourself a superlative now, what would it be? Music/Theatre/Crafting Nerd 7. If you could go back to high school, what would you differently? I would like to have relaxed and known that I was good enough. 8. Describe your teenage fashion sense in five words or less. ![]() 1. What is your favorite memory from high school? The European trip with my French class. 2. What is your least favorite memory from high school? My time on the volleyball team. I was horrible at sports and during a game a girl on the opposing team saw that. She kept serving the ball directly to me and I kept missing. Over and over. I think the coach finally took me out once I broke down into tears. Yeah, fun times. I wonder what that girl is doing now…. 3. What was your most played song/album/singer when you were a teenager? Anything by Duran Duran or The Cure. Also, The Music Man and Fiddler on the Roof soundtracks. I had eclectic taste! And I still love the classic musicals. 4. What was your favorite movie from your teenage years? West Side Story 5. If you could go back to high school, what would you differently? Oh my. So many things. 6. Describe your teenage fashion sense in five words or less. Plaid, wool uniform, and penny loafers. Amazingly, my penny loafers lasted all four years. I think I burned them in a ceremony after graduation. BPB Yearbook: A Throwback Cabaret will be presented November 9th at 7 PM and November 10th at 8 PM at Davenport's Piano Bar & Cabaret (1383 N. Milwaukee Ave, Chicago). Tickets are $15 and there is a two-drink minimum. ![]() 1. What is your favorite memory from high school? I was a solid member of the men's section of our HS show choir, and senior year I decided to quit, mostly out of rebellion. The choir directors told my parents that they were worried about me "hanging with the wrong crowd." I absolutely was, and it was the greatest year. 2. What is your least favorite memory from high school? Saturday marching band practices. What kind of torture is that? Sometimes kids would get drunk at 10 am just to make the day more interesting. Side note: Not a great combination with a hot summer day under the sun. 3. What was your most played song/album/singer when you were a teenager? My car only had room for one CD, so I would listen to The Essential Billy Joel from top to bottom, maybe for my entire junior year. It really explains a lot. 4. What was your favorite movie from your teenage years? Saved. It was so edgy and smart and utterly shocking that someone could capture the EXACT situations that came up during the "hip" revival of church that was happening in my community. 5. If you had to give yourself a superlative in high school, what would it have been? Most likely to actually become cool. 6. If you had to give yourself a superlative now, what would it be? Most likely to actually become cool. Still working on it. 7. If you could go back to high school, what would you differently? There was a week once a month that I dubbed "Hell Week," which involved rehearsals from the end of school until 9 or 10 pm, all week. That's nonsense for a high schooler. I should've quit a group and been more involved with my friends or dating. 8. Describe your teenage fashion sense in five words or less. Button-down faux pas. Singing "Tale As Old As Time" in a stirring turn as Mrs. Potts in a Blackfriars Guild Drama Club production of Beauty and the Beast. 2. What is your least favorite memory from high school? The one semester of gym (and week of swimming) that we were REQUIRED to take. And subsequently paying my gym teacher a dollar for "charity" on multiple occasions so I could take a study hall instead. 3. What was your most played song/album/singer when you were a teenager? Want One by Rufus Wainwright. Pretty good taste for a 15-year-old! 4. What was your favorite movie from your teenage years? Many sleepovers included Moulin Rouge! viewings - it still makes me weep to this day and I know every single word. 5. If you had to give yourself a superlative in high school, what would it have been? Most likely to spontaneously combust due to overwhelming management of and participation in extracurriculars. 6. If you had to give yourself a superlative now, what would it be? Best eyebrows. 7. If you could go back to high school, what would you differently? I think I would do most of it the same, but I wouldn't beat myself up so much. I had my hand in a lot of different things and cared very deeply about success and mastery of schoolwork and activities. I'd probably just tell myself to chill out a bit and relax into things - and that the best is yet to come. 8. Describe your teenage fashion sense in five words or less. Chocolate brown crushed velvet gauchos. BPB Yearbook: A Throwback Cabaret will be presented November 9th at 7 PM and November 10th at 8 PM at Davenport's Piano Bar & Cabaret (1383 N. Having ALL IN THE TIMING presented at the 2003 Illinois High School Theatre Festival. It was the first show I ever directed, and boy, did the bug bite. 2. What is your least favorite memory from high school? Uniforms. Thanks, Catholic education. 3. What was your most played song/album/singer when you were a teenager? The Producers Original Cast Album, RENT Original Cast Album, "Stunt" by Barenaked Ladies, Weezer's Blue Album. 4. What was your favorite movie from your teenage years? American Beauty. Still my #1. 5. If you had to give yourself a superlative in high school, what would it have been? Most Creative or Most Artistic ... which is high school code for "we think he's gay but he's too young to know it yet." 6. If you had to give yourself a superlative now, what would it be? Loudest Guffawer 7. If you could go back to high school, what would you differently? Unequivocally, my private journal would remain private. 8. Describe your teenage fashion sense in five words or less. Baggy plaid. BPB Yearbook: A Throwback Cabaret will be presented November 9th at 7 PM and November 10th at 8 PM at Davenport's Piano Bar & Cabaret (1383 N. Milwaukee Ave, Chicago). What was your favorite movie from your teenage years? Village of the Damned. The 1960 version. Though I'll add the most true to life film I've seen in a high school setting was 1999's Election. 5. If you had to give yourself a superlative in high school, what would it have been? Biggest rabble-rouser. 6. If you had to give yourself a superlative now, what would it be? Least likely to attend a high school reunion? 7. If you could go back to high school, what would you differently? Not let anyone scare me away from trying gym and sports. 8.
